Top Items You Need on Competition Day

You don’t need us to tell you that competition day is a big deal, especially nationals! When you are getting ready for the first big national cheerleading competition of the season, it’s easy to get a little nervous and forget some of the little essentials you need to get through the day. That’s why we’ve made a checklist for you to make sure you are ready to rock the mat!

The Uniform

This is the most important part! If you won’t be performing until the evening, it’s common to show up in your warmups and change into your uniform later. However, forgetting the bottom of your uniform will make for quite an emergency. Even if your uniform is securely packed, don’t forget the other essential parts. Your bow and your cheer shoes are just as important. We recommend that you double – no, triple – check your bag before you head out the door to the competition.

Makeup

You are beautiful just the way you are, but you are also terribly washed out under those stage lights. Make sure to pack mascara, lipstick, and blush at the bare minimum. Younger girls can get away with a little less makeup, but this is at your coach’s discretion. It never hurts to check before you go. Always bring your makeup with you in your bag for small touch ups during the day. Those stage lights are hot, and you want to look just as good for awards as you did for your performance!

Snacks

You’re going to spend a long day on your feet, tumbling, jumping, and stunting. Most competitions have concession foods available, but these snacks are often unhealthy and greasy. That combination is just enough to make you sick once you do finally take your all-star team to the mat. Don’t let the heavy foods weigh you down; pack healthy snacks that will keep your energy high, such as granola bars, veggie sticks, and lots of water.

Toiletries

Your makeup might not be enough. To avoid feeling sweaty and gross during the day, pack some deodorant, a toothbrush and some toothpaste, a hairbrush, a teasing comb, and a light body spray if you feel the need. Not to mention, extra hair ties, hairspray, and bobby pins are essential for ensuring that your hair remains perfect from the welcoming message all the way until they announce the cheerleading Worlds bids.

Athletic Supplies

You are athletes, so it’s always best to prepare for injuries. Packing pain medicine, athletic tape, and any necessary braces will help you feel more secure during your performance. The last thing you want to deal with is a twisted ankle that leaves you feeling uneasy and unable to throw your tumbling when it’s time to compete.
